Would you like to follow the creation of a book?
Mary is 16 years old and lives in a typical upscale London neighbourhood. The daughter of a renowned doctor and a spoiled mother, she ended up pulling on her parents' qualities and defects. In the summer of a very troubled year for the entire planet, her family decides to take a long trip to a hotel in northern England. However, the journey becomes much longer and stranger than expected. From fallen meteorites from space to skeletal monsters, the young blonde's summer vacation turns out to be a surprising and frightening adventure, where the fine line between living and dying has never been closer to chaos.

Birth of the Dark Writer Project
On March 9, 2010 a Brazilian writer decided to create a community on the extinct social network Orkut under the pseudonym “Dark Writer” and began to invite readers to follow the creation of a book. The community created was called “DarkWriterBR”, which, in a short time, surpassed one thousand readers. The growing legion of fans joined the project from the first released chapter, which was full of events and ended in a phenomenal way, enticing them to the sequel of the story.

Dark Writer, the mysterious writer, spoke during an interview that their biggest inspirations for writing are the books “The Lord of the Rings” by J. R. R. Tolkien and “Harry Potter” by J. K. Rowling. But, according to the readers who follow the project, Dark Writer has a very original content, unlike any other literary work ever released.

Dark also revealed that they don't show their identity because they want readers not to pay attention to whether they are male or female, young or old, but to the story of the literary project. In addition, in the final stretch, before the book is released, the title of the work will be chosen by readers.

Nahamut, the talented illustrator

Well, you have probably already noticed that the project's character profiles usually contain very interesting chibis (character illustrations). These illustrations were made by Nahamut (Jennifer Tamochunas), an illustrator who was found by Dark on DeviantArt in mid-November 2010. Dark really liked the Gothic style of Nahamut's illustrations and, therefore, decided to invite her to be part of the project.

JOJI KOJIMA, the famous designer

In mid-June 2011, Dark Writer realized that they needed to wear a mask and, after a little research, realised that Joji Kojima (at the time famous for creating masks for Lady Gaga) would be a great artist to create this piece, which would keep their face mysterious. It was with the help of readers that the famous designer learned about the story of the Dark Writer Project and immediately agreed to create the mask that would identify our author. The piece was created from a drawing by Nahamut, who was inspired by an idea by Dark. Shortly thereafter, the exclusive piece made by Kojima arrived directly from Japan.

22nd Sao Paulo International Biennial Book Fair, 2012

Dark Writer was present at the 22nd Sao Paulo International Biennial Book Fair. Readers, at that time, already announced that they wanted a physical book, so our author decided to run after a publisher that could fulfil the readers' dream and their own, but they were not successful. However, the meeting that Dark had with the readers at the event was very important, because they realized it was not only virtually that there were fans willing to support the publication of the story of Mary, Adam and Liem.

Sir Barry Cunningham, the publisher who chose to publish Harry Potter

In 2012 a translator known as Alice Fagiolo translated the first and second chapters of the Dark Writer Project into English. Therefore, an English reader, also named Alice (McCall), read and loved both chapters. A few days later, the young English reader sent a tweet to Barry Cunningham, the publisher who chose to publish J.K. Rowling when the writer had already been turned down several times.

“If it weren't for Barry Cunningham, Harry Potter would still be languishing under the stairs. I doubt any writer is more grateful to him.” (J.K. Rowling)

Barry, after receiving Alice McCall's referral, contacted Dark and offered them the chance to publish the work at his publishing house, The Chicken House. After that fact, it didn't take long for our author to move to England in order to put their dream into action.

Dark Writer in LONDON & OXFORD, 2013

As soon as they arrived in England, Dark Writer began to publicise their works on the streets. Wearing the mask created by Joji Kojima together with a mysterious black suit, they went out distributing the first chapter of their literary work to anyone interested in knowing the story. Two important cities in England had their presence; the first was London, where they distributed chapters near Big Ben; the other was Oxford, where they were supported by students from the prestigious University.
Dark Writer at MCM London Comic Con, 2014

In 2014 Dark Writer donned the mask and ended up at MCM London Comic Con to distribute the first chapter of their literary work. At this event many people wear cosplay and play their favourite characters, and the author ended up coming across “Harry Potter”. The British actor Daniel Radcliffe, our beloved wizard, curiously observed Dark’s eccentric clothing and mask, until they ended up initiating a conversation through gestures. Daniel indicated that the Brazilian author should queue up to take a photo with him, but the limit of photos with the actor had already been closed.

Ian McKellen supports the Dark Writer Project

Ian McKellen, an award-winning actor also known for the roles of Gandalf in “The Lord of the Rings” and Magneto in “X-Men”, supports the Dark Writer Project. In November 2014, Dark Writer attended the Oxford Union, a place where Oxford students debate on a variety of subjects and receive testimonials from the smartest and most famous people around the world.
Dark chatted with Ian McKellen that night and the actor didn't take long to fall in love with our masked writer's style.

Personal problems in the life of our author

Dark Writer fought hard to get a publisher. However, everyone knows that, in addition to their artistic work, there is also their personal life. Certainly, Dark has a private life, and unfortunately, there was a personal problem. That's why Dark walked away from the project in early 2015, and as a result, the release of the literary project was delayed with Barry Cunningham's consent.

Now, in 2022, Dark Writer has finally fallen back in love with their writing, while Mr. Cunningham continues to show interest in seeing the work of this eccentric Brazilian author finished.

PS: Sir Barry Cunningham stated that the Dark Writer's true identity will be revealed on the opening day of the project's physical work, which will likely take place in a London bookstore.
